You set the microstop threshold yourself. Too low and the operator drowns in prompts, too high and the biggest loss stays invisible.

Four questions about production monitoring.

What is the difference with OEE?
Production monitoring is the registration, OEE is a number you calculate from it. You can monitor production without ever showing OEE, but you cannot have a reliable OEE without this registration underneath. Most companies start here.
Do we have to connect all our machines?
No, and usually that is not a good idea either. Start on the line where you suspect you lose the most. What you learn there applies to the next one, and the investment stays small until you know it works.
How soon do we see anything?
As soon as a machine is registered, you see it live. The figures only become a conversation after a few weeks, once you have a normal week to compare against. A day says little, a month says a lot.
Is this monitoring our people?
That depends on what you do with it, and it is the question that makes or breaks the rollout. The figures are about machines and orders, not about individuals. Where this works, companies use them to show where the line works against them; where it goes wrong, they get used to hold someone to account.
